Effect of TiO2 Particle Concentration on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Ni-P-TiO2 Composite Coatings

Abstract:
Ferritic stainless steels are widely used in equipment, including parts in turbines, electrical industries, aerospace, automotive and decorating industries. One of the problems with this type of steels is their low wear resistance. One of the ways to overcome this problem is to apply a wear-resistant coating on the surface of steel. In this research, nickel phosphorus-titanium oxide coating was deposited onto the AISI 430 steel using electrical plating technique and the effect of TiO2 particles concentration on microstructure and wear behavior was studied. To test the abrasion resistance of the coated and uncoated samples, a pin on the disk test was used. Also the michardness was measured by Vickers microhardness device. X-ray analysis (XRD) was used to determine the available phases and calculate grain size. Characterization of the coating was performed using SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). The results of the tests showed that the addition of titanium oxide particles causes the decrease of grain size and the increase of microhardness and abrasion resistance

TiO2 nano-particle effect on the chemical and physical properties of Ni-P-TiO2 nanocomposite electroless coatings
TiO2 nano-particles were used in electroless plating bath to obtain Ni/P/nano-composite coatings. The coatings were heat treated at 200, 400, 600 and 700 oC and their chemical and physical properties were investigated and it was found that 400 oC was the optimum temperature for the heat treatment of the coatings. The micro-hardness test of coatings showed that t...

Nickel-phosphorus coatings (Ni-P) are widely used in industry due to their high hardness, corrosion resistance and very good mechanical and chemical properties. Oxide particles such as TiO2 can be used to increase the wear resistance of these coatings. In this study, the Ni-P-W-TiO2 composite coating was deposited on the AISI 304L steel substrate using the electroplating method. Electroplating ...

The Zn-Ni-TiO2 composite coatings were developed on mild steel by electrodeposition method. The bath constituents (ZnSO4.6H2O, NiSO4.6H2O, TiO2, thiamine hydrochloride) and operating conditions (temperature and pH) were optimized by Hull cell method, for peak performance of the coating against corrosion. The coatings were prepare...
full textEffect of TiO2 addition on the microstructure and nanomechanical properties of Al2O3 Suspension Plasma Sprayed coatings
Alumina-titania coatings are widely used in industry for wear, abrasion or corrosion protection components. Such layers are commonly deposited by atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) using powder as feedstock. In this study, both Al2O3 and Al2O3-13 wt% TiO2 coatings were deposited on austenitic stainless steel coupons by suspension plasma spraying (SPS). Two commercial suspensions of nanosized Al2...
